JOIN THE PROTEST OF PERRY'S
CHRISTIAN FASCIST RALLY THIS SATURDAY

If you haven't heard already, Texas Governor, and likely presidential candidate, Rick Perry is actively organizing, via an official proclamation from his political office, a "Day of Prayer and Fasting for Our Nation". It will be at the Reliant stadium this Saturday, Aug. 6, from 10 am to 6 pm.
THIS IS A SERIOUS MOVE TOWARD A THEOCRACY
Citing the book of Joel, which by the way, calls on Christians to "beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears" (chapter 3, verse 10), Perry calls on the faithful to pray and fast to seek forgiveness for their "moral decline". And he says that "even those who have been granted power by the people must turn to God..."
Calling this "The Response", he has assembled a wide range of Christian fundamentalist leaders from nutcases like Mike Bickle, the founder and executive director of the International House of Prayer, who targeted Oprah Winfrey, as "a precursor to the anti-Christ", to more mainstream pastors like Ed Young, of Houston's Second Baptist Church.
The main sponsor and "host" of this call for people to "get down on their knees" is the American Family Association. Its head bigot, Bryan Fischer, is waging a holy war on gay marriage and homosexuals in general, outraging the world by claiming, among other numerous fascist inventions, that Hitler's stormtroopers were made up exclusively of male homosexuals, because, unlike heterosexuals, they "had no limits on the savagery and brutality they were willing to inflict". Seriously folks, this is no joke. "The Bible Taken Literally is a Horror" In the FAQ section of the Response website, you can read the "American Family Association's statement of faith", which "The Response" has officially adopted. It states first: "We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God". And that the non-believers, "the lost", are condemned to damnation.
A lot of people either just see the lunacy behind this and write off these crazies. Or some simply aren't paying attention. And now there is talk in the press that since the expected turnout for this fascist pep rally looks to be well below what organizers had hoped, that this just proves how marginal these forces are.
But think about what it means that the governor of one of the largest states in the country, and (possibly the next president!) is basically calling for a Christian theocratic regime. As Bob Avakian has said: "Conservative, my ass! These people are Nazi's!" And who among the Democratic leadership has called this out?! What does this say about what kind of system we are living in? We say, Fight the Power, and Transform the People for Revolution
THE PROTEST AT RELIANT
These Christian fascists must be opposed and it is a very good thing that many individuals and a number of organizations are doing just that. A coaltion of atheists, freethinkers, gay rights organizations, progressive clergy, feminists and others will be protesting in front of the Reliant Center, starting at 8 am. They have gotten permission from Joe's Crab Shack for protestors park in their lot all day. From the facebook event page: After the picket, we're going to have a get-together/meet and greet in the patio area at the Joe's Crab Shack down the road from the picket, on 610 just west of Kirby Dr. We're asking folks to go to that to bring 1 or 2 cans of food, for the Houston Food Bank. We'll take the cans there the following Monday. www.HoustonFoodBank.org For all of you'all who hate the direction things are going, and want to be part of resistance to all this, we are calling on you to join this protest. Let's make some noise and be creative! We will be there with banners (the two quotes above), signs, copies of Revolution, the new book, BAsics, from the Talks and Writings of Bob Avakian, and other literature that shows how the way out of all this is revolution...join us in creative ways of getting out a revolutionary message in the midst of this.
